Kavitha Shanker
Kindergarten Lead Teacher
At Saint Andrew's since 2015
Teaching experience: 10 years
BA, Stella Marris, India
I was born in India and my name Kavitha means poetry in the Indian language of Sanskrit. I started my career as an educator at The British International School in Washington, D.C. This gave me a great opportunity to work with teachers and children from around the world. I have experience with both British and International curriculum. I’m passionate about teaching and I’m keen to use this wealth of experience from my wide and diverse background. My aim is to inspire children to be happy, independent learners.
I have enjoyed both roles as a parent and teacher here at Saint Andrew’s. The parents, staff, and students have a community spirit that makes it a unique place to learn and work.
Before my role as an educator I was a restauranter. I owned and operated The White Tiger, a fine dining restaurant in Washington, D.C. and EJ’s Landing in College Park, Maryland. I enjoy cooking, yoga, and travelling the world. I have been fortunate enough to have explored more than 40 different countries. This has taught me to embrace different cultures, traditions, and culinary skills to share and build upon.
