I currently teach Elementary Art, but I have also taught all levels of High School Ceramics, Drawing, and Painting. I previously taught two years in a college setting, and two teaching children and adults with special needs. Since coming to Saint Andrew's, I have also enjoyed teaching PreK-1st Grade Spanish and PreK-1st Grade PE!
I believe in fostering positive perceptions of learning in my students. This makes their education not only more effective, but more fun! I aim to create a nurturing and inclusive environment that promotes creativity, thoughtful questioning, and individuality. In the art classroom, students work with a wide variety of media, materials, and subject matter. My art curriculum is focused on the Elements and Principles of Design, as well as the study of diverse artists and art movements from around the world. No matter what subject I’m teaching, differentiated instruction, cross-curricular collaboration, diversity and inclusion are key to my curriculum. My students are able to draw connections between the subject and their day-to-day lives, as well as their own local and global communities. I want my students to be lifelong learners, and I consider myself one too! I am always looking for Professional Development opportunities in education and ways to deepen my other skills as well. In addition to teaching at Saint Andrew’s, I co-coach Middle School Soccer and Basketball. I also offer several different After School Enrichments, most prominently a Yoga Club and Arts and Crafts Club.
In my free time, I use my years of experience as a freelance artist and designer to create my own artwork (when I can!) and to complete commissioned projects. I also enjoy reading, getting creative in the kitchen, and the great outdoors. I’m a yoga enthusiast and am about to complete a Yoga Teacher Training program to become a certified yoga teacher. I love all animals, especially dogs, and can often be found adventuring with my “son” - a lab-pitbull-shepherd mix named Henry!
